It is hard to find other parents with similar parental philosophies or interests

When you make your friendship all about the kids, you can quickly figure out whether this mama has similar or far different parenting styles than you. In a perfect world she would have a similar philosophy OR you could both live side-by-side being best friends with opposing parenting styles. BUT, this is unlikely. We are human and it is human nature to judge whether we like it or not. Even if we try our very best, we are most likely going to judge our mama friends on ways they handle their children at some point or another. This can be a big turn off for strengthening a relationship.

The same goes for interests… Maybe your idea of a perfect get away would be to get out and drink some wine at a nice restaurant but this mama you met at the park wants to go out clubbing. Definitely different ideas of what would be a fun night away from the kids.

When I think about connection to nature, my instinct is to stop thinking about it and go outside. All the real living I’ve done, has been outside. I’ve been lucky enough to have spent many days in the wilderness, where I didn’t think about my connection to nature until I returned to my modern house, with electricity and running water and thick walls and furniture. To engage with nature from a more intellectual, classroom setting, feels counterintuitive, but I believe there is much to be learned. The reading has made me reflect on my own experience, as well as gain insight from others.

Trackbacks + Pingbacks + Link Rot

Trackback helps you to notify another author that you wrote something related to what he had written on his blog, even if you don’t have an explicit link to his article. Within the WordPress interface, “ping” is sometimes used to refer to Pingbacks and Trackbacks.

In general computer terms, “ping” is a common utility used in a TCP/IP environment to determine if a given IP Address exists or is reachable. Typically, Ping is used to diagnose a network connection problem. Many times you will be asked, “Can you ping that address?”. That means, does the Ping utility return a success message trying to reach the “problem” IP Address?
